Ice Skating

speed up to slow down.

During the fall and winter, you have a number of fun indoor and outdoor options for ice skating on Vancouver’s North Shore.

Outdoor Ice Skating

Shipyards Commons:

One of BC’s largest outdoor skating plazas and it is completely free!  Shipyards Commons’ skate plaza is usually reserved for a summer waterpark but during the winter months, it’s an outdoor ice skating experience (covered for rainy days) with views of the water and Downtown Vancouver.

Grouse Mountain

Another great way to experience winter is to try outdoor skating on Grouse Mountain’s 8,000 square foot mountain top ice skating pond, the only one of its kind on the West Coast. Grouse Mountain‘s outdoor skating rink opens as temperatures allow, usually from late November to April 9 am to 10 pm. Access to the skating pond is included in your Grouse Mountain ticket/pass. Skate rentals are available at the Fireside Hut. Check the Chalet Cam for conditions.

Indoor Ice Skating

If you prefer indoor skating several Recreation Centres in North and West Vancouver offer public and family skating options from September to mid-March.

North Vancouver

In North Vancouver, there are public skate drop-ins at Karen Magnussen, Harry Jerome, Ice Sports and skate and helmet rentals are available for all ages. Rec Centres all offer free parking. Ice Sports has three NHL standard size rinks.
