Event Details
CARMINHO
The Voice of Fado
Carminho is one of the greatest fado singers today and an internationally acclaimed Portuguese artist. She is considered the most talented and original fado singer of her generation, whose art covers both the traditional and contemporary fado. Carminho’s repertoire also shows the influence of Portuguese traditional and Brazilian popular music.
Daughter of the renowned fado singer Teresa Siqueira, Carminho was born in the middle of guitars and fado voices, having marked her debut singing in public at the age of twelve, at Coliseu dos Recreios (Lisbon). Early on she was tempted to record albums but decided to wait.
As a young adult, Carminho felt that singing fado required a maturity and life experience she didn’t yet have. For a year, after finishing University studies, she travelled the world, participating in humanitarian missions and returns to Lisbon determined to give herself entirely to an artistic career.
“Fado”, her first album, is released in 2009. Reaches platinum (an enviable result for a debut), received the distinction of best album of 2011 from the British magazine “Songlines”, performed at Womex 2011 (Copenhagen) and at UNESCO’s Paris headquarters as part of Fado’s application for world heritage status.
In 2012, she released her second album, entitled “ALMA”. After touring the main venues in Europe and the World, she fulfilled her dream of recording with Milton Nascimento, Chico Buarque and Nana Caymmi, which resulted in a reissue of “Alma” with three new songs. Carminho began to conquer Brazil with sold-out concerts. The affirmation as the most international of Portuguese artists is consummate and distinguished in Portugal with a Golden Globe and the Carlos Paredes Award, seeing both her albums reach the double platinum mark.
“Canto” is released in late 2014 and her relationship with Brazil takes even deeper roots, with the first partnership of Caetano Veloso with his youngest son Tom. This very strong relationship with Brazil reac
hes one of its most consistent moments already in 2016, following an invitation from the family of António Carlos Jobim and records “Carminho canta Tom Jobim”.
“Maria” is the title that Carminho chose for the fifth recording of her career, an exciting album that assimilates everything that Carminho learned directly from her fado roots, respecting the truth of the words and the traditional language, but at the same time with a free and contemporary look at the world that inspires her.
Her musical journey so far has revealed Carminho as an artist that makes strict and well-considered decisions, never forgets her roots and, while continuing the centuries-old musical tradition of fado, is nevertheless relevant and relatable to the generation of today.

The Land of Giants (2023)
“If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” -Isaac Newton
The story of man vs. mountain is one that has captured our imaginations for centuries. But what if MSP flipped the script? What if, instead of focusing on the human element, we took a closer look at the mountains themselves?
That’s the premise of The Land of Giants, a new ski film that explores the most iconic mountains on Earth. From the Fjords of Norway to the spines of Alaska, we will get to know and understand the canvas that creates the most mind-melting moments in skiing. But most importantly, we’ll come to appreciate their sheer beauty and power. Captured with revolutionary cinematography combined with genre bending music, The Land of Giants is not to be missed.
The Land of Giants features the best skiers in the world, skiing unbelievable conditions and riding to the very edge and beyond. It’s a celebration of the natural world, and a reminder of the power of the human spirit. It’s a film that will leave you awestruck, inspired, and humbled.
Join us on this journey into The Land of Giants.

This year the Ocean Film Festival World tour celebrates 10 years of inspiring, educating and protecting oceans around the globe. The program showcasing films from independent filmmakers worldwide, has been hosted annually in 14 countries over a 10 year period, touching countless lives in and out of the ocean. A special anniversary program is set to kick off in Australia before heading to 13 other countries.
In just ten years the Film Festival has seen 771 screenings throughout the globe, 325,670 audience members, screened in 14 countries, 89 independent filmmakers’ work seen on the big screen, and thousands of dollars donated to ocean charities.
Festival founder, Jemima Robinson remarks, “Ten years ago we started the Ocean Film Festival World Tour with big dreams, not only to inspire the world to explore and enjoy our oceans but further to protect and respect them. With a personal passion for film and all things around the ocean, I wanted the Ocean Film Festival World Tour to become an avenue for promoting ocean conservation and bringing people together to celebrate mother nature. We have done this through sharing unique stories by independent filmmakers from around the globe, reaching many exciting milestones, and now we set our sights towards the next 10 years of making an even greater impact”.
Currently touring around the world North Vancouver is next to carry the baton for the first time. This year’s carefully curated selection of short films will inspire everyone to get involved in more ocean activities for fun and to protect its wonders.
Audiences will be taken on an international tour of spectacular stories that celebrate the beauty and power of the ocean and honour divers, surfers, oceanographers and marine life.
“Featuring a line up of adrenaline inducing yet heart touching films, witness the very best stories from the likes of an epic surf trip to the untouched waves of eastern Russia in winter, Italian free diving, or visually feast on breathtaking seascapes as an Australian man attempts to make a wing foiling world record, or venture to the Arctic with a team of explorers and scientists to discover why the earth is losing sea ice. This year’s 10th Anniversary celebration provides yet another year of show stopping films”, explains Jemima.
