Canada’s Most Livable City? Vancouver’s North Shore Takes the Top Spot (Again)

February 5, 2026 |

Two years in a row!

The City of North Vancouver, along with its neighbour, District of North Vancouver, was recently jointly voted the Most Livable City in Canada for the second time, and we are doubly excited about it. In their yearly list of Canada’s top places to live, The Globe and Mail not only ranked North Vancouver as number one, but West Vancouver (also a part of Vancouver’s North Shore) as number two!

The news outlet evaluated 454 cities across the country, considering nearly 60 variables across 10 categories. The rankings account for factors such as the economy, housing, demographics, health care, safety, education, community, amenities, transportation, and climate.

However, it isn’t a matter of just repeating the same standards year after year. We’re also happy to share that committing to improved community resources and boosting local diversity plays a big role as well. As Vancouver’s North Shore continues to be a leader in areas like nature preservation and Indigenous reconciliation, we couldn’t be more thrilled about this recognition as we look towards our future together as a community.

We hope this distinction serves as an invitation for visitors to come and explore, and for our local residents to continue seeking out ways to enjoy all the natural wonders here while respecting and preserving the land we’re on. As the Globe article says, it doesn’t matter what stage you’re at in your life, from just out of school, to starting a family, to beginning retirement, you can always find new ways to flourish here.

We also hope this blog doesn’t come across as us bragging, which would be decidedly UN-Canadian. We’re fully aware that we still have progress to make! So here’s to enjoying this moment, and coming together about all the ways we can continue to make Vancouver’s North Shore one of the true jewels of Canada.

Feel free to stop by soon and celebrate with us!
